2022 Episcopal Webster Scholars!
February 21st, 2022
Please join us in congratulating the 2022 Episcopal Webster Scholars!
Lauren Bradford
A former Student of the Year at Copper Mill Elementary School in Zachary, Lauren Bradford says friends would describe her as “very competitive and determined in school and sports.” Lauren is well rounded with tremendous success in academics and athletics. She has been recognized for her science acumen and has served as the Zachary Community Schools Jr. BETA Club Vice President. Through BETA Club and her local church, Lauren organizes and participates in community service projects in her area.
Lauren received the Zachary Community Schools P.E. Sportsmanship Award which recognizes the outstanding female athlete of the year. She plays soccer through the Baton Rouge Soccer Association and has competed on the Louisiana Soccer Association Olympic Development Team, which travels throughout the southeastern United States. Lauren is an avid runner winning four of her last six cross country meets. Lauren accomplishes all of this while maintaining a 4.0 GPA and scoring in the 90th percentile on the ACT. Lauren’s mother, Elizabeth, says the Bradfords were interested in Episcopal because of the school’s reputation, small class sizes and challenging academics.
Timothy Namikas
As a Louisiana Science and Engineering Fair regional and state category winner, Glasgow Middle School eighth grader Timothy Namikas looks forward to learning at Episcopal because of the unique science classes and well-equipped labs. This year, Timothy’s science fair project titled “An Investigation of the Ability of Riparian Buffers to Reduce Pollution of Water Bodies” earned him first in category, the Naval Science Award, Broadcom Master nomination and first overall at the Regional competition. The Beta Quiz Bowl team, of which Timothy is a member, won at state and now goes on to the national competition. Timothy is also a member of Science Olympiad this year, preparing to build on the numerous first place finishes last year, including placing first in Mission Possible and Food Science at the state competition. At the Division B National Competition, Timothy placed 23rd in Mission Possible and 29th in Food Science.
When he’s not exploring scientific endeavors, Timothy serves as the Beta Club Treasurer and is the Quartermaster of his Boy Scout troop with the Star Scout rank. Timothy placed second in the regional National History Day competition and earned the highest mark possible five times at the O’Neil’s Solo Music Festival for his performance on the piano. He is a graduate of the American My Oyster Association diversity, equity and inclusion course and has served as a program ambassador. In addition, Timothy also competes in soccer. He does this all while maintaining a 4.0 GPA throughout Middle School and scoring in the 97 percentile on his recent ACT test.
Webster Scholars Award Honors Episcopal Legend
Webster Scholars are bright and motivated rising ninth grade students who distinguish themselves as academic and community leaders. This is the most prestigious award granted by Episcopal. Recognition is based on GPA, ACT scores, a student statement, a writing sample, teacher recommendations, demonstrated leadership skills and an interview with school administrators.
The Webster Scholars program is named for Episcopal’s first Head of School the Rev. Ralph Webster. Father Webster was instrumental in establishing Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, calling it a “bold new venture.” Honoring outstanding students with the Webster Scholars Award continues that bold vision by ensuring that bright and motivated students have the opportunity to grow academically, artistically, athletically and spiritually.
We can’t wait to welcome Lauren and Timothy to the Episcopal Upper School.
Congratulations to the previous Episcopal Webster Scholars!
