Episcopal Named to AP® School Honor Roll
October 5th, 2023
Episcopal has been named to the Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) School Honor Roll, earning the Gold distinction. The AP® School Honor Roll recognizes schools whose AP programs deliver results for students while broadening access. Schools can earn this recognition annually based on criteria that reflect a commitment to increasing college-going culture, providing opportunities for students to earn college credit and maximizing college readiness.
Recently, Episcopal recognized 28 AP Scholars with Distinction, 15 AP Scholars with Honor and 18 AP Scholars. Click here to see the full list. Annually, the school offers more than 20 AP courses ranging from AP Biology and AP European History to AP Spanish Language and Culture and AP Computer Science Principles. Between 2019 and 2022, 168 students enrolled per year in an AP course and more than 88% of them earned a three or higher.
Providing access to rigorous AP courses is just part of Episcopal’s efforts to prepare graduates for college and purposeful lives. With three full-time College Counselors, each Episcopal graduating class benefits from a 1 to 35 student-to-college counselor ratio. (The National Association for College Admission Counseling recommends that schools maintain a 250 to 1 student-to-counselor ratio.) This means that students receive individualized college guidance from counselors who get to know them and truly understand their career goals and aspirations for the future.
Episcopal’s experienced college counselors guide students through a comprehensive college admission journey that begins in eighth grade. College counseling efforts include one-on-one counseling, application workshops, the college fair, college tours and visits, course selection and test preparation.
College Board’s Advanced Placement® Program (AP®) enables students to pursue college-level studies—with the opportunity to earn college credit, advanced placement, or both—while still in high school. Through AP courses in 38 subjects, each culminating in a challenging exam, students learn to think critically, construct solid arguments, and see many sides of an issue—skills that prepare them for college and beyond.
Join us in congratulating our students on a job well done!
