Affording Episcopal
Episcopal School of Baton Rouge is committed to enrolling an inclusive student body comprised of students from various economic, ethnic, racial and social backgrounds. As part of that commitment, the school has established a program of tuition assistance for families who would otherwise be unable to consider Episcopal as an option for their children. The school’s philosophy regarding tuition assistance is that it be need-based. The school also has several merit-based scholarships. Episcopal attempts to select the most qualified students for admission based on the student’s academic and personal qualities as well as his or her potential ability to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school community, independent of a family’s ability to meet the cost of an Episcopal education.
While it is the school’s firm belief that the primary responsibility for financing the student’s education belongs to his/her family, Episcopal appreciates that not every family can bear the full cost. The purpose of the tuition assistance program is to make Episcopal accessible to these families. If you would like a member of our Admission Team to contact you, please click here. |

+ Episcopal Scholarships AT A GLANCE
Episcopal awarded more than $350,000 in scholarships last year. The school has a number of established merit-based scholarships designed to recognize bright and motivated students. Each year, applicants to our Middle and Upper School who reflect - in their academic and leadership talents - exceptional achievement are considered for these scholarships.
Scholarships are awarded based on the criteria established by the donor(s) funding each merit scholarship award. Both current Episcopal students and new applicants are automatically considered for partial-tuition scholarships; there is no separate application process. Examples of Episcopal scholarships include the Lamar Scholars program, which strives to expand the Episcopal experience to more students in the region and to promote an inclusive school environment representing a variety of student backgrounds. New for the 2019-2020 academic year, Episcopal has announced the Webster Scholars program, which provides scholarships to two new Episcopal rising ninth grade students not currently in the Episcopal school system.
Students receiving scholarships are also encouraged to apply for additional aid through our Tuition Assistance Program. It is the school’s philosophy that tuition assistance be need-based. Episcopal attempts to select the most qualified students for admission based on the student’s academic and personal qualities and potential ability to contribute to the extracurricular life of the school community, independent of his/her family’s ability to meet the cost of an Episcopal education.
Our admission, scholarship and tuition assistance policies for qualified students are administered without regard to race, color, religion, gender, national and ethnic origin or disability.

+ Tuition assistance FAQ
Who can apply for Tuition Assistance at Episcopal?
Families receiving Tuition Assistance at Episcopal represent a wide range of financial backgrounds. Although the primary responsibility of funding a student’s education rests with the family, any family unable to afford the full cost of tuition may apply for Tuition Assistance.
How does the School determine financial need?
Financial need is evaluated by the Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) system and defined as the difference between the cost to attend Episcopal and a family’s ability to pay. It provides the School with a general assessment of a family’s ability to pay for education. Major factors in determining financial need include, but are not limited to, income, assets (including home equity, college funds, investment accounts, and trust funds), family size, and the number of children attending tuition-charging institutions. There is no preset income figure that qualifies a family for assistance.
When do I apply for Tuition Assistance?
The Financial Aid for School Tuition (FAST) system opens in early October. Families should apply concurrently for Episcopal admission and Tuition Assistance so that financial awards are given at the time of admission offers.
Is Tuition Assistance automatically renewed each year?
Episcopal requires families receiving Tuition Assistance to reapply each year. However, as long as the student remains at Episcopal, Tuition Assistance is renewed every year according to demonstrated need. A change in income, family status, and the number of children attending private institutions may result in increases or decreases in an award providing funds are available. Every application is reviewed annually.
What if I still have questions about Tuition Assistance?
Episcopal’s dedicated, full time Director of Tuition Assistance is available to counsel privately with interested families regarding tuition assistance. A family’s interest in tuition assistance and any award granted is considered strictly confidential.
