Visual and Performing Arts Calendar

The Arts at Episcopal are a foundational part of the student experience...

We believe that creativity, expression, and artistic discipline are skills that prepare our students for lives of meaning.

When students are aware of the beauty around them, they begin to feel empathy for others, learn to communicate their feelings, and grow in their common humanity.

We invite you to see the difference a strong artistic foundation can make in the life of your child.
Dance
Episcopal Dance
Lift, extend, flow, fly--Dance at Episcopal offers students the opportunity to explore art as it intersects with the human body in time and space. Episcopal's dance program begins in 6th grade and offers both beginners and advanced students the opportunity to develop their abilities in the classical and modern forms of dance.  Our program is geared in such a way as to allow those interested in dance at the collegiate level to receive an excellent foundation while welcoming those who wish to explore the possibility of dance in a safe and encouraging environment for learning.
Music
Episcopal Music
Episcopal Choir
Collaborate, compose, create... the music program at Episcopal offers students, Pre-K3-12, the opportunity to explore the historical, theoretical, and emotional impact of music from cultures around the world.

Students in the lower school are immersed in the Kodály and Orff method, using sol-fege, a wide selection of Orff instruments, and recorders to fully realize lessons demonstrated in the classroom. Classes are fun-filled and engaging, culminating in performances throughout the year.

Middle school students are offered a choice of either band or chorus for a nine week enrichment period. Students spend the majority of their time focusing on the basics of their chosen instrument. Both middle school band and chorus perform during the school year and are provided travel opportunities every other school year.

Upper school students can choose from a wide array of musical offerings, ranging from AP Music Theory to Concert Band and Concert Choir. The emphasis in the upper school program is college preparatory in nature, with literature choices for instrumental and choral ensembles chosen from college and university repertoire lists. Students experience, first-hand, the joys and challenges of the western musical canon, exploring historical, philosophical, and musical implications through performance and analysis. Both the instrumental and choral departments travel abroad on a 3-4 year rotation and perform locally for churches and community organizations in the Baton Rouge area.
Drama
Episcopal Drama and Arts
Improvise, understand, articulate, choose -- standing on the stage in front of your peers, lifting your voice so even the person on the back row can hear.  At Episcopal we see theatre and drama as essential for developing strong communication skills and the ability to understand different points of view.

Students in all grade levels have the opportunity to participate in co-curricular offerings throughout the year and perform in the school's 450 seat proscenium theatre.  Classes are offered in the curriculum from grades 5-12 and focus on improvisation, stage-craft, and exploration of the rich world of dramatic literature.  Classes are also offered in technical theatre in which students work with our full-time technical director to design build sets, lighting, and sound for productions.

Episcopal has a powerful track record preparing students for careers in theatre. Come and experience the possibilities.
Visual Arts
Episcopal visual arts program
Expression, creativity, design -- all aspects of our common humanity that bridge the gap between cultures and allow us to understand and empathize with others.  At Episcopal the Visual Arts serve to develop our students' connection with artists and movements in the past while helping them make sense of their emotions today.

Students in the lower and middle school experience hands-on lessons with a dedicated art teacher and explore many different mediums, from painting to clay.  In the Upper School, classes in painting, pottery, drawing, sculpture, and digital photography--taught by experienced teacher/artists--deepen with student interest, preparing students for their college experience and meaning-filled lives.
