On Thursday, December 3rd during morning tutorial, the Writing Center kicked off the Christmas season with the first annual Under the Oak Community Read Event for the Upper School. Although it was named for the planned location of the deck outside the Website Dining Hall, the event was moved to the Aldrich Library because of cold temperatures. Students enjoyed sitting on the couches by the windows on the first floor as they ate cookies and listened to the writing of their peers. Eleven Upper School students read their poetry, personal memoirs, and other creative pieces. Student writing fellow Harrison Ferachi (’15) served as the emcee. Writing fellows Mary Beth Barksdale (’16), Gabrielle Beinasz (’16), Deven Kimbrell (’15), and Amanda Tsai (’15) also helped in planning the gathering.
