Thanks to the generosity of the Parents' Guild, Episcopal now has another outdoor classroom space to add to a beautiful list of facilities – a greenhouse. The greenhouse is located next the the batting cages and baseball complex. Thanks to Tubular Structures of Lucedale, Mississippi, construction of the greenhouse began this summer and will soon be completed with the installation of cooling fans. Students in Mr. Sonny James’ fifth grade class have already put the facility to good use by measuring the temperature inside the structure today. Students were very excited to see the new space where they will continue their studies of hydroponic systems to produce lettuce for Chef Pat and embark on other horticultural studies!
We are grateful to Mr. Jimmy Hadden and The Baton Rouge Farmers Market, as well as Naylor’s and Clegg’s nurseries, for their consultations in hydroponic lettuce cultivation. We look forward to many tasty salads at lunch!
