We had a great robotics season this fall. We more than 30 fifth through eighth grade students join the robotics club. This fall we participated in FIRST LEGO League (FLL). We had two teams of ten, one fifth grade team and one middle school team. Both teams competed in the regional qualifier. As part of the challenge they had to design a solution to a trash problem. The middle school team, worked to create less waste by researching biodegradable/recyclable cups to use in the cafeteria. They met with Chef Pat, Lucy Smith, and Hugh McIntosh to propose a solution. They will continue to work on the problem as part of the Green School Challenge this spring. Our fifth grade team, place in the top 40% at the regional qualifier and was eligible to attend the state tournament. They competed against 60 other robotics teams from around the state. They even won one of three Rising Star awards given to rookie teams who show promise. Their trash solution focused on pizza box waste and designing a recyclable box liner that could reduce the number of pizza boxes thrown away every year. Both teams worked very hard and learned so much.
We look forward to more great updates from our Robotics teams!
