Using the Writer's Workshop model and lessons created by Lucy Calkins, students find their voice as they write small moment stories at the beginning of the year. During second quarter while studying tales from around the world, students write a fairy tale adaptation. They are challenged with the task of using their knowledge of setting and characters to create a new story. Students move on to create non-fiction masterpieces after mastering the elements of non-fiction. At the end of the year students write memoirs emulating beloved author Cynthia Rylant. Parents are invited in for an Author Share after all of the editing and publishing of these books has taken place. Students leave third grade with a love and confidence in writing. We are so proud of our young writers as they have found their voices in third grade. Here are some pictures from our end of the year Author Share with parents.
