Episcopal Student's JAR for Change Project Highlighted
Episcopal eighth grader Joey Roth knows that every little bit counts when it comes to helping others. Roth started an effort called JAR for Change to support mothers and babies at Woman's Hospital. The jars are placed at local businesses with the goal of collecting loose or discarded change, which is then donated to Woman's. Joey was highlighted in InRegister for his effort. You can read the article here.

Girl's Nation Senator
Senior Macie Sentino spent part of her summer at Girl's Nation. She was selected as one of two senators to represent Louisiana. This is the third year that Episcopal has had a senator selected for Girl's or Boy's Nation.

Sophia was also named the 2019 winner of the Peggy Kirk Bell Award given by U.S. Kids Golf. You can read more about that honor here.

Soccer Success
Congratulations to the Upper School boys soccer squad! The team won the 2019 Summer Superprep High School League Championship in the gold division. This optional summer competition is a tradition for area high school soccer teams, providing a fun way to build team camaraderie and leadership during the off season. Summer Training Means Exciting Fall Learning
The work and training done by Episcopal educators during the summer results in new and exciting opportunities for students upon their return. Upper School teacher Dr. Billy Pritchard attended a training session for AP Microeconomics with Dr. Gary Stone, Professor Emeritus in Economics at Winthrop University. Dr. Pritchard and teachers from Georgia and South Carolina took part in the training where they learned more about the course content as well as how to prepare students for the revised AP test. Participants also received lesson plans and made contacts with people who work in the Federal Reserve Bank of Atlanta’s education outreach program. The four-day seminar was sponsored by the Georgia Council on Economic Education (GCEE) and the College Board.

This fall, Dr. Pritchard returns to Upper School prepared to offer the course to juniors and seniors. In fact, more students than originally planned will have the opportunity to learn more about everything from market equilibrium and consumer and producer surplus, to the effects of government intervention in markets. “We had enough student and family ‘demand’ that we had to ‘supply’ two sections when we originally only intended one,” says Dr. Pritchard with a smile.
