Around the World in 180 Days
Travel at Episcopal includes both exchanges and curricular-based travel opportunities available throughout the academic year.
Exchange programs allow students to welcome students from other countries into their homes for a two-week period in the Fall and Winter. In the Spring or Summer, students from Episcopal stay in another country with a host family. This home-stay experience is immersive and gives the student the opportunity to deeply experience another culture. Language students have the opportunity to practice their language skills in a real-life setting. However, exchange travel opportunities are available for all Episcopal students.
Curricular-based travel is related to a course that students have taken or plan to take. These trips include a learning component. For instance, students who participate in a trip to Washington, D. C., have either taken or will take United States History or United States Government. And during the trip, students are able to learn more about topics beyond the courses offered in school.

Going to Spain was an amazing experience. It helped me make lifelong friends and experience an awesome culture. Through this trip, I chose my thesis topic. I also know that I want to continue studying Spanish in college. This exchange program broadened my world view and strengthened my academics.
— Mary Emerson Owen (Class of 2018), Trip Participant
Deciding to go to Spain was one of the best decisions I’ve made! I was immersed in the Spanish culture and my Spanish tremendously! Learning Spanish in the classroom and looking at pictures is so different than actually being in Spain and seeing how what you learned applies to everyday conversations! I made many fond memories that I will cherish for a long time.
— Hayley Gregoire (Class of 2020), Trip Participant
I fell in love when I first went to Madrid so I had to go back! Learning about the culture and history while being fully immersed was such a great experience. I plan to visit Spain again when I am in college.
— Cali Sabolik (Class of 2018), Trip Participant
Being immersed in the Spanish culture is eye-opening. Seeing Madrid and the surrounding areas is breathtaking, but living with a family that truly lets you experience the “real” Spain. I will forever be grateful for “Mi Familia” in Spain who opened the doors to me and treated me like one of their own.
— Ms. Nancy Calloway, Chaperone

Traveling to Chile was a once-in-a-lifetime experience. I wouldn’t trade it for anything in the world. I never felt homesick, and the people were very welcoming. I would definitely recommend going to Chile.
— Riley Carmouche (Class of 2020), Trip Participant
I have hosted two Chilean students and have traveled to Chile three times. After hosting my first student, I instantly became intrigued by the culture, and I made a lifelong friend. Going to Chile was one of the most amazing experiences that I have had in my life, and I fell in love with the friendly environment and beautiful surroundings. Chile has become like a second home to me, and I am grateful to have three Chilean families that I will have lifetime connections with. I loved my experiences and travels to Chile so much that I went back a second time with the school, and this past summer, I returned for a third time with my mom and my brother so that I could share some of the experiences that I have had with them. My experiences with both hosting and traveling have excelled my Spanish and also my interest in the Spanish language and culture.
— Maia Adams (Class of 2020), Trip Participant
