FAQ
How long will the Head of School (HOS) search last? When do you expect to hire the next HOS?
Typically, a Head of School search takes around 9-12 months. Our goal is to select a new Head of School by Fall 2019 who will start working on July 1, 2020.
What is the role of the Search Committee?
The Search Committee, along with the search consultant firm School Strategies & Solutions (School Strategies), is tasked with directing the new Head of School search process from start to finish. The Search Committee will coordinate input from Episcopal’s various constituencies, work with School Strategies to develop the detailed job/position profile description, and review the first round of candidates. They will then organize and conduct interviews with the semifinal and final candidates. At the end of the process, the Search Committee will present a qualified candidate to be confirmed by Episcopal’s Board of Trustees. Another major function of the Search Committee is to keep our community informed and engaged throughout the process, while also ensuring the confidentiality of the candidate.
How was the Search Committee chosen?
They were chosen by the Board of Trustees for their background, deep connection to Episcopal, and expertise in specific areas. The Search Committee members include Episcopal parents, parents of alumni, alumni, faculty members, and current and past Trustees. They will work closely with School Strategies to identify and interview candidates from across the country and closer to home. The faculty representatives were selected by their peers during the August In-Service. The Search Committee will be responsible for identifying and interviewing candidates, and to make a final recommendation to the Board of Trustees. The Board of Trustees will confirm the final Head of School selection.
What specifically are you seeking in a new Episcopal Head of School?
In conjunction with School Strategies, we will engage segments of our community to develop a candidate profile that reflects Episcopal’s strong and distinct culture and values, with an eye toward our future goals as outlined in our strategic plan. The process will provide a valuable opportunity to learn from our community about the qualities we seek in a new Head of School. We should take great pride in the school that our community has built over 50+ years.
What is the role of Episcopal’s faculty/staff/administration in the process? Will the search impact the faculty’s time in the classroom or the staff/administration’s time and availability?
In addition to the members of our faculty who will serve on the Search Committee, others will be actively engaged throughout the search by taking the time to meet candidates when they visit the school, welcoming visitors into their classrooms, and providing other means of input as requested by the Search Committee. The search process takes place over an extended period of time and will not affect the effectiveness of Episcopal employees.
What is the role of Episcopal’s parent/guardian, student, alumni community in the process?
During the process, there will be opportunities for segments of the Episcopal community to provide input. Members of the community will be invited to meet our Head of School finalists when they come to campus. Information about the schedule will be disseminated when available.
Will the Head of School search impact my child’s experience at Episcopal?
No. Our faculty, staff and administrators are committed to our primary goal, which is to provide your child with an outstanding educational experience and to fulfill our mission:
As a ministry of the Episcopal Diocese of Louisiana, Episcopal School of Baton Rouge nurtures and develops the whole child – spiritually, intellectually, morally, physically and artistically – through challenging academic and co-curricular programs which prepare our graduates for college and for purposeful lives.
The Search Committee, under the direction of the Board of Trustees, moves forward in the search for the new Head of School with a commitment to that mission, to our current students, and to Episcopal students in the future.
