Lower School Families,

While our week together was short, it was overflowing with community and joy, celebrating Easter Egg Hunts & Parties and Grandparents & Special Friends Day!

Thank You!

Easter Celebration Volunteers: Enormous thanks to the Parents’ Guild, especially Lower School Parents’ Guild Coordinators Caroline Martin and Margaret Pernici! It was an honor to partner with the Parents’ Guild to celebrate Easter, community style! Special thanks also to Abide Events for the beautiful Easter Bunny picture backdrop, Homeroom Parent Leads for your support with the egg hunts & parties, and countless parent volunteers for event set up.
Grandparents & Special Friends Day Volunteers: Thank you, Anya Glusman & Carolyn Borne, Team Volunteer Leaders for Grandparents & Special Friends Day, and to all the parent volunteers who helped guide our 500+ special guests this morning!

Our theme this week was reverence. Click here to see Mrs. Lofland’s Toolbox Tuesday lesson.

In the QUEST Center this week, Early Childhood students balanced Easter eggs on paper tubes and attached Easter egg halves using Play-Doh to make a tall tower. 2nd graders wove Peruvian textiles as part of their study of South America and Spanish culture. 5th graders continued to build and code a variety of things, such as an elephant and a submarine, using the LEGO Spike Essentials kits in Coding & Robotics Enrichment.

Lower School Families,

We’ve had an excellent week in the Lower School!

Our theme this week was helpfulness. Click here to see Mrs. Lofland’s Toolbox Tuesday lesson.

In the QUEST Center this week:

PreK-3 students balanced Easter eggs on tubes to practice their hand-eye coordination using slow, precise movements.
PreK-4 students built a wall for Humpty Dumpty using various types of blocks and building materials.
Kindergarten decorated wooden easter eggs using a variety of loose parts.
1st - 3rd participated in a variety of STEAM activities, such as creating with Air Toobz, building with the Simple Machines Building set, playing Sum Swamp, and more.
2nd graders designed and built a zipline carrier to help rescue a toucan from the rainforest.
3rd graders compiled observations and questions related to Louisiana Ecosystems during a gallery walk. They also designed and created a solution to slow Louisiana’s coastal erosion problems.
5th graders in Mrs. Won’s homeroom built and coded modes of transportation using the LEGO Spike Essentials Kits.

- 7:25-8:00 Guest Check-in - VPAC Lobby; Students report to the Lower School
- Parking for Guests: Front lot, Alumni House lot, Chapel lot, Gym lots, Chapelwood Drive. No parking on Woodland Ridge or the carpool circle.
- Parents are welcome to pick up/drop off guests & students at the carpool circle to avoid guest parking.
- Guests will travel around campus on this day. Golf carts will be available for those who may need assistance traveling.

Lower School Families,

We’ve had a wonderful week in the Lower School!

Our theme this week was self-control. Click here to see Mrs. Lofland’s Toolbox Tuesday lesson.

In the QUEST Center, Early Childhood students continued to investigate floating and sinking during a sensory experience that involved pouring, measuring, using pipettes, and more. 2nd graders participated in a STEM challenge to design and construct a kangaroo pouch and test it to see if it could hold a joey while hopping as part of their study of Australia. 5th graders learned more about the eye and light from an expert eye doctor and dissected a cow’s eye.

3/23 Lower School Monday Knight Lights - This is THE night to be a Knight! Festivities kick off at 3:30 PM with our Varsity Knights on the tennis courts, followed by softball at 5:00 PM. The event lineup is here. An event map is here. Bring your family, wear your blue and gold, and help us pack the stands, cheer loudly, and show your Knight pride! Don’t just watch—be part of the excitement! This is one night you’ll remember!
- Food: Snowballs and hot dogs are free to everyone until they run out; popcorn is free with a paid ticket to the softball game
- Special for Lower School: Lower School students can run onto the field with a position player and stand with that position player for the National Anthem. Lower School students will be invited to run the bases on the softball field after the game is over
- Parking: Parents are encouraged to park along Chapelwood or in the gym parking lots, pick up their Lower School student from carpool, and walk to the tennis courts
- Alumni will be admitted free

Lower School Families,

We’ve had a wonderful week in the Lower School!

Our theme this week was listening. Click here to see Mrs. Lofland’s Toolbox Tuesday lesson about SLANT.
In the QUEST Center, Early Childhood students investigated floating and sinking by testing how many pieces of “gold” it takes to sink a cauldron. PreK-3 students created habitats from various materials for the animals that they have been studying. 2nd graders hosted their annual International Fair by participating in various activity booths from a wide variety of countries and cultures. 5th graders learned about the eye and light from a guest speaker.
5th graders visited the Louisiana School for the Visually Impaired.
All students safely practiced an emergency preparedness Intruder Drill.

Lower School Families,

We’ve had a great week in the Lower School!

In the QUEST Center this week, Early Childhood students discovered sinking and floating, experimenting with a pot of “gold.” 3rd graders enjoyed a cooking demo with Chef Pat. 5th graders in Mrs. Hoapili’s homeroom built carnival games using Legos and coded them to perform specific motions.
On Monday, kindergartners showed off their reading powers by zooming into Morning Meeting as Super Readers.
5th graders joined Middle School on Tuesday for Step Up Day.
On Wednesday, we celebrated Tayln’s birthday during chapel & 1st graders traveled to Independence Park Theatre for a special viewing of The Three Little Pigs.
On Thursday, many 3rd - 5th graders exercised their math brains in the 2nd annual math competition after school.
And today, the whole school celebrated the Festival of Colors, uniting together, forgetting all resentments, and celebrating the onset of Spring! We encourage you to lay a towel or blanket in your car for the ride home. Students will be colorful!

Saturday, 2/28: 8 AM - 3 PM CW Austin Learning Disabilities Conference - Episcopal is proud to partner with the Greater Baton Rouge Learning Disabilities Coalition and host the 2026 CW Austin Learning Disabilities Conference. This event is open to parents. Topics included in this year’s conference include: ADHD, dyslexia, autism, mental health, behavior management, learning strategies, and more. Lower School Families,

This was a special week in the Lower School. Students celebrated the joy of reading by visiting the Book Fair and meeting authors. During Morning Meeting, we had many special presentations: grandparent Leo Raymond taught us about the Zulu Mardi Gras parade, Upper School students taught us about Lunar New Year, and kindergarten students performed a variety of Mardi Gras melodies. Today, we celebrate Valentine’s Day; kindergarten students are pampering parents during their annual Sweetheart Spa; and 5th graders will help us wrap up the week with a festive Mardi Gras parade!

We continue to lift 5th grader Talyn in prayer as a community each Tuesday. As a reminder, all Lower School students are invited to wear Team Talyn t-shirts in support of her brave battle against cancer. #teamtalyn

Theme & Toolbox Tuesday - Our theme this week was Adaptability. Mrs. Lofland’s Toolbox Tuesday lesson is here.
QUEST Adventures - In the QUEST Center this week, Early Childhood students created Valentine’s Day mail and used a variety of materials to build hearts. 3rd graders baked king cakes and learned the history of King Cakes as part of their study of Louisiana History and Culture. They also shared their mini projects with their buddies. 4th graders decorated fraction cookies. 5th graders in Mrs. Laugier’s homeroom began building and coding using the Lego Spike Essentials robotics kits.

3/6 Festival of Colors - This begins at different times for Lower School students, and we’ll celebrate in slightly different ways. Please read this message carefully for special dress information and suggestions for the car ride home.

Saturday, 2/28: 8 AM - 3 PM CW Austin Learning Disabilities Conference - Episcopal is proud to partner with the Greater Baton Rouge Learning Disabilities Coalition and host the 2026 CW Austin Learning Disabilities Conference. This event is open to parents & educators and will feature presentations from local experts such as William Daigle, Ph.D., Randy Lemoine, Ph.D., Darlyne Nemeth, Ph.D., and many more include two educators from Episcopal, Brandi Bergeron and Tiffany Muse Guerin. Topics included in this year’s conference include: ADHD, dyslexia, autism, mental health, behavior management, learning strategies, and more. This conference is designed to empower and inspire. Lower School Families,

Throughout the month, we will celebrate Black History Month through in-class learning and several grade-level & guest presentations during Morning Meeting. This week, third graders performed “On Blueberry Hill” and 5th graders recognized individuals. Together, these experiences throughout the month, will highlight the importance of honoring Black history and its lasting impact. Also this week, kindergartners traveled to Manship Theater for a Pete the Cat show, and all students enjoyed another King Cake Day & a dragon dance performed by Episcopal faculty, parents, and students.

Next week is School Counselor Appreciation Week, and celebrating Mrs. Lofland will certainly be easy to do. Mrs. Lofland provides exceptional support to Lower School students!

Theme & Toolbox Tuesday - Our theme this week was goodness. Mrs. Lofland’s Toolbox Tuesday lesson, featuring Mindfulness strategies, is here.
QUEST Adventures - At the QUEST Center this week, Early Childhood students explored shadows with flashlights, creating groundhog shadows on the wall. 1st graders created puppets of their nursery rhyme characters to use in their presentations. 2nd graders discovered the true value of blubber for animals in cold climates by wearing a blubber “glove” to dip into the icy waters. Third graders worked on their mini projects on topics related to Louisiana history and culture. 5th graders continued building and coding various amusement park rides.
2/9-2/13 Book Fair: Reading Days for Reading Knights - We are thrilled to celebrate reading next week, learning from various authors and shopping in the Book Fair. All the details for shopping and ordering books are here.

Lower School Families,

Despite the frigid temperatures, learning and growing continued in the Lower School! On Tuesday, 3rd graders visited the old and new state capitol. On Wednesday, the entire school gathered for an all-school Lunar New Year assembly. On Thursday, a small army of amazing parents helped students create artwork for the Knight Under the Stars auction - thank you! And today, our PreK-4 students celebrated the 100th day of school by dressing as 100-year-olds. All students also enjoyed some delicious king cakes today, thanks to you!

QUEST Adventures - In the QUEST Center this week, Early Childhood students investigated balance and engineering by creating “bridges” using popsicle sticks and cups for arctic animals to cross. 1st-3rd graders participated in STEAM Stations! These stations include a series of activities for students to participate in to explore simple machines, light and shadows, magnetism, gravity, motion, and more! 3rd graders constructed a variety of mini projects to display their knowledge of topics related to Louisiana History and Culture. 5th grade scientists coded carnival games and amusement park rides using LEGO Spike Essentials robotics kits.

Lower School Families,

The chilly temperatures haven’t slowed down learning and playing in the Lower School! This week, students enjoyed an author visit with Kendra Farris, who shared her book What a Gift Different Can Be. Also this week, students practiced an Intruder Drill, devoured king cakes, and showed off their best tropical attire to kick off Knight Under the Stars: Havana Knights! It’s great to be a Knight!

Tonight is the Lower School Spirit Knight. Join us! The fun begins with a tailgate on the E-Court (Gym Room 5 if it’s raining) at 5:00 PM, and the game starts at 5:30 PM. Here are the details.

The Used Uniform Sale is tomorrow in the VPAC Lobby: 8:00 AM for new families; 9:00 AM - 1:00 PM for all families.

QUEST Adventures - In the QUEST Center this week, Early Childhood students rescued animals frozen in ice using water in droppers and other tools. 1st graders coded BeeBots to follow specific paths related to the Fairy Tales they are reading. They also designed and built a sturdy house to hold the Three Little Pigs, so that it could withstand the huffing and puffing of the Big Bad Wolf. 5th graders tested paper airplanes to see how changing variables affects how far they fly. 5th grade scientists coded Crazy Carnival Games using LEGO Spike Essentials kits.
1/28 - Feed the Lions! - Our annual Lunar New Year Lion Dance Assembly will be held next week. Students are invited to bring a $1 bill to school on Wednesday to “feed” the lion, which brings good luck and prosperity, and to show appreciation.
