Parents' Guild Wish List 2019-20

Parents' Guild is self-funded and relies solely on volunteers and fundraising efforts to support Episcopal and the school community throughout the year. Extra money raised is used to fund items that would not be available under the present school budget. All teachers, faculty, and staff were asked to submit requests that they would like funded through Parents' Guild. Please review these Wish List requests and vote for the items you would like funded. Voting is open April 28th at 8 AM through April 30th at 4 PM. The link to vote will be emailed to all current parents. Art Room(s) Supplies - All Divisions - $4,230 
Outdoor tables outside each Art Room, shelving for supplies, a large whiteboard to enable drawing demonstrations and a slab roller for the Clay Lab will boost the inspiring, helpful and healthy creative learning experience for students at all levels. Teachers will be able to engage students in different learning avenues and increase students' engagement.

Writing Center Update - Upper School - $1000
The Writing Center is a vibrant part of student life with the potential to become integrated with each department at Episcopal. After five years of operation, it needs new furniture and supplies to establish a comfortable and fresh space for students to continue tutoring, collaborating and nurturing the writing spirit at Episcopal.

7th & 8th Grade Book Study through Advisory: Guiding through Character - Middle School - $3,203.46
Episcopal's Middle School Advisory Program focuses on enhancing our students' social-emotional growth and development. As a part of our program, we would like to incorporate book study during Advisory time. Our Advisory groups are gender-separate, allowing us to delve into challenges that boys/girls face and help instill morals, values and character traits important for this critical stage of development. The books that we have selected are: "The Teen Girl's Survival Guide: Ten Tips for Making Friends, Avoiding Drama, and Coping with Social Stress" by Lucie Hemmen, and "Season of Life: A Football Staf a Boy, a Journey to Mankind" by Jeffrey Marx. We would like to purchase a book for each student and advisor, so they may begin the year with the supplies needed for Advisory book study.

Floor Mat for Student Center - Upper School - $600
This would enhance the Student Center and inspire the students who use it to feel proud of Episcopal. It would look great when we show prospective families the Upper School and show how proud we are to be Knights!

Play: The Highest Form of Research - Early Childhood - $1773.62
Social and emotional learning is as important as academic achievement. To support our kindergarteners, enhancing our unstructured play time, or "free centers" will provide students with the opportunity to play creatively, find their joy and learn to interact with their peers in many different ways. This would be a very powerful part of kindergarten learning.

Visual Arts Displays & Equipment - All Divisions - $3,203.96
An improved system for hanging artwork in the VPAC would be efficient and save money. Expanding equipment in the classroom to include dry erase board and a printing press would enable greater clarity in instruction and broaden the range of media available to students. These items will enable Episcopal to continue its tradition of being an arts school and help showcase the incredible talents of its students.

Aldrich Library Furniture - Middle and Upper School - $4,684
The library is one of the most active spaces on campus, where students gather before and after school, during breaks, and for free study or class time with a variety of purposes. The comfortable seating areas are well worn, and in need of replacement.

Reader Pen Support for Students with Dyslexia/ Reading Comprehension - All Divisions - $1,060
Reader Pens allow students to read easily from printed text, and can translate different languages. This enables students to reach their potential by allowing them to display their knowledge that would otherwise be impeded by a learning difference or non-native English language speaking. We have three Reader Pens on campus already, so this proposal to purchase an additional 4 Pens would make this tool available to more students who need it.

Fountas & Pinnell Interactive Read-Aloud Collection - Lower School - $3,531
The Fountas & Pinnell Classroom Interactive Read-Aloud Collection is the foundation for literacy instruction in First Grade. The collection of twenty-five texts reflect a global perspective with a diversity of characters, settings and topics. A variety of authors, illustrators, topics, genres, themes and text structures in the collection will help students become better thinkers and communicators.

QUEST Center Foam Noodle Engineering Set and LEGO Wall Boards - Lower and Middle School - $1,188
Foam noodles and connectors are lightweight, durable materials suitable for indoor and outdoor engineering design projects. Students from Pre-K through middle school could conduct projects and activities using these tools in all academic disciplines. LEGO Wall Boards are also durable items that can be used by students of all ages for many different purposes.

Knights' Kitchen - Lower and Middle School - $1,800
The QUEST Center kitchen will enable students to practice important skills such as estimating, measuring, chopping, mixing and following written directions in delicious new ways. It will be a place for experimentation and real world learning. This proposal is for start-up supplies: mixing bowls, measuring cups & spoons, vegetable peelers, spatulas, whisks, pots & pans, and aprons.
