Parents' Guild Wish List 2018-19

Parents' Guild is self-funded and relies solely on volunteers and fundraising efforts to support Episcopal and the school community throughout the year. Extra money raised is used to fund items that would not be available under the present school budget. All teachers, faculty, and staff were asked to submit requests that they would like funded through Parents' Guild. Please review these Wish List requests and vote for the items you would like funded. Voting is open April 30th at 8 AM through May 2nd at 4 PM. The link to vote will be emailed to all current parents. The remaining Parents’ Guild funds will not cover the entire list of proposed items. If your family or business would like to sponsor any of the items on our wish list or have questions, please contact us at: episcopalpgpresidents@gmail.com

Episcopal Community Read for Middle & Lower School - $3500 - Funded
Community Read would provide 3rd grade students and middle school students with the opportunity to participate in an engaging community read with their classmates and families, then attend an author book club event to celebrate reading. Selections would be made for a 3rd grade title, with a copy purchased for each student. An author with multiple titles appropriate for 6-8 grade students would be selected for an author visit. Students would be encouraged to read with their family, who would then be invited to attend a Community Read event, which would include a celebration of reading, book club style discussion, and an author speaking event.
Itemized List of Expenses
Middle School Book Selection: $500
Middle School Author Fee and Travel Expense: $1,300
Lower School Book Selection: $500
Lower School Author Fee and Travel Expense: $1,200
Total Estimate: $3,500

Upgraded Water Fountains for Aldrich Library, Middle School Building, VPAC Lobby, & VPAC Hallway - $12,600 - Funded
Last year Parents' Guild funded two water fountain bottle fillers for Lower School. This proposal is asking to upgrade the water fountains in the Aldrich Library, Middle School Building, VPAC Lobby, and VPAC Hallway. The fountains are used throughout the day by students and faculty. The current fountains are very small and do not allow the students to refill their water bottles without spilling water onto the floor, which causes puddles and a safety hazard for students walking.
Itemized List of Expenses
Water Bottle Refilling Stations (5): $12,600

3rd Grade’s 2020 Vision - Lower School - $987.57 - Funded

Reading to Acquire French - Middle & Upper School - $868.18 - Still available for sponsorship
The more you read, the better your vocabulary becomes and the better you understand language. This is true for children in language arts and English classes, as well as for students in foreign language classes. To this end, I would like to expand my library of readers for my French students. The books I have selected are highly engaging and written for students learning French. The stories are comprehensible, yet stretch the students’ vocabulary and overall understanding of the French language.

Canvas Labyrinth - All Divisions - $3,200 - Still available for sponsorship
Enhancing the type of opportunities we offer our students is the main goal of the purchase of a 7-circuit pattern 24-foot octagonal canvas labyrinth. Year round but especially during Lenten season, the portable labyrinth could simultaneously enhance the physical and spiritual experience one has while developing the awareness of self. Developing spirituality requires attention and this activity of walking the portable labyrinth allows it to be used both indoors and out, in the classroom or chapel with minimal effort. If being used outside, there are brass grommets in their hems and tent pegs.
Itemized List of Expenses
Canvas Labyrinth: $2,900
Shipping: $300
Total Estimate: $3,200

Root for the Mini Knights - Lower School - $1,398 - Funded
For years a robotics gap has existed in Lower School. Our robots were either too simple to challenge student or too complex. The introduction of Root to the market this year could change that. Root bridges the gap between the BeeBot and Dash. It has three levels of programming, making it suitable from first grade through middle school and beyond. We were given one as a demo and the students love it. It does things, like draw on magnetic whiteboards, or move to coordinate points that none of our other bots do, making it engaging for older students as well.
Itemized List of Expenses
Root Robots (8 @ $174.75): $1,398
Total Estimate: $1,398

3D Printer Replacement - Middle & Upper School - $2,697 - Funded
Several years ago we requested three 3D printers for our campus. Students across all divisions and departments have enjoyed using them. Since the original purchase, the technology has significantly improved. Dremel, while it will continue warranty on our old printers, is no loner creating software or updates for them. Soon we will no longer be able to use them. As student devices improve, fewer and fewer work with our current printers. We are requesting an upgrade of our printers to the latest model. Newer models will ensure that we can continue to design and print on campus.
Itemized List of Expenses
3D40 Dremel printers includes shipping (3 @ $899): $2,697
Total Estimate: $2,697

Kindergarten Station Spruce Up - Lower School - $4,653.53 - Still available for sponsorship
We want to give our stations an overhaul to meet the needs of our students academically, socially, and emotionally. We would like to add new materials to the stations we already have, and add new stations to the classrooms. We are hoping to add two new stations in our classrooms: a game station that teaches taking turns, teamwork, and strategic skills (we could go on!), and a puzzle station that will encourage problem solving, hand/eye coordination, self-esteem and more! The funding of these stations will help to support our students’ learning in purposeful and functional ways. This wishlist item is for all of Kindergarten.

Fertroller for Greenhouse - All Divisions - $3,250 - Funded
The CropKing Fertroller enables the grower to automatically control the EC and PH of the hydroponic nutrient solution in recirculating the NFT grow system. With automatic EC and PH control the grower can maintain more consistent solution conditions and prevent potentially damaging variations. This can lead to higher production, better crop quality and more time for other greenhouse duties.  The greenhouse was originally equipped to do the mixing of nutrients manually. The task of keeping the nutrient system consistent manually has created the problem of nutrient and PH level fluctuation. The crop has not been as vigorous as a result.
Itemized List of Expenses
CropKing Fertroller: $2,795
Nutrient concentration tanks: $300
Shipping: $150
Total Estimate: $3,245

Morning Meeting, a daily occurrence in Lower School, is arguably one of the most important parts of our day. Imagine sitting at Morning Meeting with many children and not being able to clearly hear the music or speaker that day. The audio system we wish to purchase can help enhance the tone and inflections heard which enables the students to better comprehend. This will help increase participation from the students. They will have confidence in what concepts or music they are hearing which will bring assurance forth for more student participation. The wireless microphone and Bose S1 Pro PA system, will help us optimize the opportunity to reach all students and parents who attend Morning Meeting each school day and other programs during the year.
