Golf

Golf is a lifetime sport which means that today’s student athletes are tomorrow’s avid golfers.  The Episcopal Golf Program strives to foster a love for the game while helping students build strength, stamina, and overall fitness that will benefit them for years to come.

Head Coach

Steve Baronich starts his 3rd year as the Head Boys/Girls golf coach.  The Girls’ team has made two consecutive appearances in the State Golf Tournament, including a 4th place finish in 2023.  The boys’ team finished 5th at the 2022 state tournament and placed 5th at the 2023 Regional Tournament, one place out of qualifying for the state tournament.

Baronich has over 40 years of experience as a coach and educator. He has served as an active member of the Louisiana High School Powerlifting Association (LHSPLA) for 40 years, serving the LHSPLA Executive Committee in many capacities during that time, including 9 terms as president.  He was instrumental in getting high school powerlifting in Louisiana sanctioned by the LHSAA.  Louisiana is one of only two states in the country that has sanctioned high school powerlifting.  Steve has also served as a powerlifting official in the LHSPLA for 39 years.  He was inducted into the LHSPLA Hall of Fame in 2004.

His powerlifting coaching career includes stops at Ascension Catholic, Episcopal and Woodlawn High School.  Overall, his boys’ and girls’ teams won a combined 7 state titles and 4 runner-up finishes, including 4 consecutive state titles for his girls’ teams at Episcopal.  Over his career, his teams have had 27 top three finishes in state meet competitions.

Coach Baronich also served as head football coach at both Ascension Catholic and Episcopal, winning district titles at both schools while making annual appearances in the State play-offs.  He also coached the girls track program at Episcopal, winning a state title in 1994 and finishing as state runner-up in 1995, along with numerous district and regional championships.

Coach Baronich has served in the capacity of Strength and Conditioning Coordinator at all 3 schools (Ascension Catholic/Episcopal/Woodlawn High School) at which he taught. He was one of the first full-time high school Strength and Conditioning Coordinators in the Baton Rouge area. 

Steve is a 1975 graduate of Notre Dame High School in Biloxi, Ms. He attended Delta State University and earned a Bachelor of Science in Education in 1980.
