Troubadour

Troubadour is Episcopal’s student-run literary magazine that is published annually. It features student poetry, fiction, creative nonfiction, art and photography and is edited, designed and published by a student editorial team and faculty sponsors. While it is typically published as an online magazine, the 2020 publication was printed as bound booklets, and the staff has continued that tradition.

Literary magazines are a unique opportunity on high school and college campuses for students to learn about the process of publishing and editing. Student writers interact most with their teachers when it comes to revising and editing their prose, so a student-run literary magazine puts the challenge of revision suggestions on the student editorial team. Peers work collaboratively to refine passages and help each student find their clear and unique voice.

Troubadour is often our students’ first experience submitting, editing and publishing their work, which helps each writer fortify their writing process and gain confidence in their voice. Each member of the student editorial staff builds leadership skills as they learn to solicit submissions, suggest revisions and design the magazine. Our community benefits from hearing our students’ voices and understanding their perspectives just a little better.
