Description

The Episcopal School of Baton Rouge seeks a Middle and Upper School Nurse to work with students in 6th grade through 12th grade for the 2025-2026 academic year. This is a twelve-month, full-time position with annual renewal beginning July 1, 2025.

Description of the School

Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, a college preparatory educational community of approximately 950 students and approximately 170 professionals, includes grades PreK-3 through 12 and embraces the whole-child educational philosophy. Requirements

General Duties

● Support the school in keeping students healthy, safe, and ready to learn. Advocate for safety by participating in the development of school safety and wellness plans.
● Support the school’s development of policies, programs, and procedures for the provision of school health services relying on student-centered, evidence-based practice and performance data to inform care.
● Deliver health care that preserves and protects student and family autonomy, dignity, privacy, and other rights, being sensitive to the diversity in the school setting.
● Be available to notify parents/ guardians or emergency contacts (if necessary) and assist any students who become ill or injured.
● Develop plans for student care based on assessment, interventions, and identification of outcomes, and the evaluation of care. Oversee medication administration and health care procedures.
● Communicate serious student health conditions and food allergy information, and student health plans with teachers and administration.
● Consult and communicate with parents/guardians, teachers, counselors, administration, and other school personnel to support student health.
● Manage the school health management system, Magnus, by ensuring all student health records are current and complete. Communicate with families when health records are needed.
● Provide health-related education to students and staff in both individual and group settings, including CPR and AED device training for faculty, staff, and upper school students.
● Monitor communicable diseases and oversee infection control measures, including contact tracing.
● Make decisions related to the delegation of health care tasks as directed by state laws and professional practice guidance.
● Stay up-to-date with federal, state, and local health reporting requirements, including reporting communicable disease transmission, immunization records, and injury reports.
● Maintain inventory and ordering of medical supplies for the infirmary.
● Maintain and issue first aid kits for off-campus field trips.
● Coordinate additional health services such as health screenings, blood drives, etc., offered on campus.

Personal and Professional Characteristics

● An R.N. degree is required.
● Nursing experience in middle or upper school and/or an independent school is desired.
● Appreciates and understands middle and upper school-aged children and demonstrates a loving and nurturing temperament.
● Approachable; a strong communicator able to engage with students, parents, faculty, staff, and administration.
● A balanced perspective of tradition and forward thinking; a person who appreciates the past and employs creative vision for the future in line with the School’s mission, ministry, and culture.
● Embraces the whole child educational philosophy and puts students first.
