The Lewis Memorial Chapel of the Good Shepherd

The Lewis Memorial Chapel of the Good Shepherd serves as the primary gathering place for worship on the Episcopal campus.  Its warm, inviting atmosphere and stunning rose window are placeholders in the hearts and minds of alumni, current students, and the Episcopal community.

In 1969, Bishop Iveson Noland and others laid the cornerstone for the Lewis Memorial Chapel of the Good Shepherd on the campus of what was then known as Episcopal High School. The building was completed and put into use during the spring of 1974. For the past 40 years, it has served as a daily gathering place for student spiritual formation and annually as the gathering place for Upper School Commencement.

Episcopal Spiritual Life

Episcopal schools are Christian communities whose mission is to integrate spiritual formation into all aspects of the educational experience in a graceful and inclusive way. They are created to be communities that honor, celebrate and worship God as the center of life. At Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, we weave the principles of meaningful school worship, rich community life, foundational religious education, and striving for social justice into the very fabric of the school’s overall life. You can see it clearly as Middle and Upper School students express themselves through service learning, sharing their time and talent with the greater community.  You can hear it in Lower School Morning Meeting as children raise their voices in song.

Episcopal schools are intentionally diverse communities. Here at Episcopal, we come together at different times, in various locations, and in many ways to encourage all students to dig deep into their individual faith and develop a sense of their own spirituality, all while helping them develop a love for both God and their neighbor. It is the core of our school’s identity and what separates us from other educational options in Baton Rouge.

Episcopal School Chapel Schedule

The core of our Episcopal identity is expressed every day when our students come together to explore and strengthen their spirituality in worship that is sensitive to the diversity of religious identities represented by the students and faculty while remaining faithful to the Christian foundations and Episcopal practice and tradition.
