Middle School Parent Newsletter | August 29, 2025
August 29th, 2025
As I ran out of time at Parents' Knight, I promised you I would share this reflection from one of our 6th-grade students: "It is important to feel confident and own who you are. This made me realize that my identity can be more than just two or three things, so it made me think about what I am. I am a good friend, creative, smart, and an amazing human. Sometimes I can be quiet, but sometimes I am boisterous, and I can be both and many more. You don't need to hold yourself to being one way all the time. You are more than a label." Every student and each of you belong at Episcopal, and we are truly fortunate to have you in our community.

FRIDAY FRONTLOAD:
Each Friday, Mr. Anderson, our Dean of Student Life, shares the Friday Frontload. Please make sure to ask your students about this important email. It outlines the week ahead, provides links to various opportunities, and always includes an encouraging word.

CLUB OPPORTUNITIES:
There are many ways for students to get involved in Middle School. As I mentioned at Parents' Knight, author Chris Balme emphasizes that "some of the most profound growth during Middle School will occur outside of the classroom." We want your student to engage in these opportunities. Alongside athletics and performing arts, we offer a variety of clubs where students can discover their passions. We've shared this information with students during Morning Meeting, and now we are sharing it with you to help encourage your student to find their place and belong!

7th & 8th TRAVEL OPPORTUNITY:
Ms. O'Neal is taking 7th and 8th-graders to the Florida Keys during spring break 2026! This is an exciting opportunity for students to learn about and explore the third largest barrier reef in the world. For more information and details about the parent session, click here.

ATHLETIC OPPORTUNITIES:
Join us for exciting athletic events and cheer on our amazing middle school athletes alongside your family! We will continue to update the schedule as more sports and games are added.

TEAM TALYN:
Team Talyn t-shirts may be purchased through our School Store, with proceeds going directly to the family. Orders placed by 9.15 will be delivered to school the week of September 29th. Additional donations for the family may also be made through our School Store. Middle School students are invited to wear Team Talyn t-shirts, paired with uniform bottoms, on any Friday this year, and lift her in prayer as a community. On behalf of her family, thank you for your prayers and support.

EXTENDED-CARE September 17th:
Lower School will not have classes on Wednesday, September 17th. If you need Extended Care for your Middle Schooler on that day, please fill out this form.
8th-GRADE FAMILIES:
Please make sure you have read the Mo-Ranch communication sent in July. This trip is a fantastic opportunity for students to bond, learn, and create lasting memories. To ensure an accurate count, if your student chooses not to attend, please notify me by September 8th via email. After this date, refunds cannot be offered for the trip cost.

ATTENDANCE:
Please remember that all absences must be reported through PowerSchool.
Looking ahead into the semester, please also know that we will be emphasizing our attendance policy this year; students who miss more than four sessions of any one class will be required to make up the minutes. This is to comply with Louisiana state law. You may hear this policy referred to as “No More Than Four” and, while there are some exceptions for school-sanctioned absences and for unavoidable absences (hospitalizations, natural disasters, etc), both reported and unreported absences count towards this limit. For more information, please refer to the handbook.

MEDICATION:
If you need to turn in medications, please drop them off with our MS/US Nurse Amy Johns in the infirmary. As with any campus visit, we kindly request that you stop by the Alumni House first to check in. This is one of our most important security protocols, and we appreciate your help.
Please also be sure that your student has up-to-date information in our Magnus Health system. This needs to be completed for every student, every year.
Please note that if these updates are not received by September 2, 2025 (Tuesday after Labor Day), your student will not be permitted to attend school until the forms are completed.
If you have any questions or need assistance, please contact Nurse Amy at [email protected].
