There's excitement and joy in Lower School as students wrap up the school year.

Field Work in PreK-3

As part of their lesson on homes and buildings, the littlest Knights conducted a field study along Chapelwood Drive. Students pointed out the similarities and differences between houses on the block and recorded their observations on a checklist.

PreK-4 is Ready to Fly!

The annual PreK-4 butterfly parade celebrated the transformation these little Knights have experienced since August. Students have learned so much this school year, and they are ready to fly into kindergarten next year.

Kindergarteners are On a Roll

Students learned so much during the kindergarten unit on wheels! They learned to ride a bicycle and took a quick trip on the Episcopal bus. They also enjoyed learning about unicycles from Dr. Beverly and her daughter, and classmate Lucy demonstrated how to roller skate. They had a great time watching "Cars" in their cardboard creations.

First Grade Creature Showcase Caps off Animal Expedition Unit

First graders shared everything they’ve learned about the creature world during the recent Creature Feature Wax Museum. Families and friends were eager to learn about eagles, peacocks, tigers, zebras and more. It was a great way to celebrate the end of a comprehensive lesson that included dissecting owl pellets, testing the efficiency of beaks, welcoming visitors from BREC’s Bluebonnet Swamp and more. Students completed the lesson with a visit to the Global Wildlife Center.

Out of this World Poetry Cafe

To mark the end of their writing unit on poetry, second graders hosted a Poetry Cafe. Since students are in the midst of their project-based unit on space, the cafe experience took on an out-of-this-world feel with space and astronaut-themed decorations. Second graders shared their favorite poems with families and friends, and everyone enjoyed treats to celebrate the occasion.

Third Graders Know a Lot About Louisiana

After an extensive study of their home state, third graders hosted the annual Louisiana Expo. Students shared highlights of their visits to the state capitol and the swamp. They also educated visitors about Louisiana plants, animals, music and food. Families and friends enjoyed seeing student artwork and the opportunity to try popular Louisiana cuisine.  

Student-Created Board Games Highlight National Parks

The recent fourth grade national parks board game assignment showcased the ability of games to bring everyone together. The QUEST Center in Foster Hall was lively as families and friends played board games together. Not only were families engaged with the games, but they were also eager to learn more about their student’s park of choice.

The assignment was the culmination of a cross-curricular unit that had students researching and writing about their national park in English class and studying landforms and parks in science class. The result was well-planned and creative games that generated excitement and fun for all ages.

Fifth Graders Go Back in Time

After studying the American Revolution, fifth graders tested their knowledge with an old-fashioned town hall meeting. Students dressed in red, white and blue or period attire representing characters such as Samual Adams, Benjamin Franklin, Martha Washington, Betsy Ross and King George. The enthusiastic debates of the Sugar Act, Stamp Act and Tea Act were an engaging and fun way for students to showcase all they have learned.
