Middle School Parent Newsletter |November 21, 2025

November 21st, 2025 by Anne Dalton

One of my favorite books is “Traveling Light” by Max Lucado. It is a reflection on the 23rd Psalm. A Psalm most people know.

In it he tells the following story: “A short-term missionary met her on a mission trip. On the final day, he was leading worship in a leper colony. He asked if anyone had a favorite song. When he did, a woman turned around, and he saw the most disfigured face he’d ever seen. She had no ears and no nose. Her lips were gone. But she raised a fingerless hand and asked, “Could we sing ‘Count Your Blessings?’” The missionary said, he will never sing that song in the same way again."

Thanksgiving calls us to pause and name our blessings. Not the picture perfect ones on a holiday card, but the deep ones that remain when life feels hard or thin. That woman in the leper colony had every reason to focus on loss, yet her song was “Count Your Blessings.”

On this holiday, we do the same. We sit at tables that hold both gratitude and grief, hopes and worries. Psalm 23 reminds us that in every season, the Shepherd is near. He prepares a table. He restores our soul. He walks with us through green pastures and through shadows.

So as we move into Thanksgiving, we remember: our truest blessing is not what sits on the table or under the roof. Our truest blessing is who goes with us. What we have in our Shepherd is greater than what we do not have in life.

You and your children are loved, prayed for, and cherished in our community.

Thank you for blessing my life, wishing you a wonderful holiday! "Count your blessings, name them one by one;
Count your many blessings, see what God hath done."

SEMESTER EXAMS:

The Middle School exam schedule and sixth grade class schedule for exam week was emailed earlier this week. It can also be found here. It is important for all students to be on campus during exam week. As a reminder, we will not dismiss students from classes during exam blocks, so please plan accordingly and avoid appointments during this time.

Seventh and eighth grade students:
If your student has an anticipated absence and will miss an exam, have your student email Ms. Dalton and the appropriate teachers immediately, if this has not already happened, and record the absence in PowerSchool. Please note, these absences will count towards the "no more than four." Ms. Dalton will coordinate make-up arrangements, including taking an exam before departure when possible. In some cases, your student will need to take the exam after the Christmas holidays. Please help your student begin a study and work plan now so they stay ahead.

Sixth grade students:
Sixth graders do not take fall exams, but this week still includes important academic work. Many classes schedule culminating tests, projects, and presentations. Encourage your student to begin a study and work plan now so they stay ahead.

If you know your sixth grade student will be absent, have your student email their teachers immediately to arrange completion of all work before the Christmas holidays and record the absence in PowerSchool. Please note, these absences will count towards the "no more than four."

ATTENDANCE:

Please remember that all absences must be reported through PowerSchool.

Looking ahead into the semester, please also know that we will be emphasizing our attendance policy this year; students who miss more than four sessions of any one class will be required to make up the minutes.  This is to comply with Louisiana state law.  You may hear this policy referred to as “No More Than Four” and, while there are some exceptions for school-sanctioned absences and for unavoidable absences (hospitalizations, natural disasters, etc), both reported and unreported absences count towards this limit. For more information, please refer to the handbook.
