Upper School Parent Newsletter | 10-24-25
October 24th, 2025
Dear Upper School Families,
I hope you had a chance to witness the robust spirit with which our students celebrated Homecoming all last week, from theme dress days to quad decorations to an emphatic football victory on Friday evening. We capped off the week with a successful Homecoming Dance on Saturday, where over 330 students gathered in our gym, including 62 students from other schools. This week, however, our focus has been on restoring normalcy after an exhausting week of festivities. In particular, this means our usual emphasis on attendance and punctuality, uniforms and badges, and the routines, habits, and rituals that continually bind us together and signal that all is well. You will find below some information regarding upcoming events, and I hope you will not hesitate to reach out to the Upper School office if you have any questions or concerns.
- Saturday 10/25, 7AM, throughout campus
- Quiz Bowl Tournament – We will host 18 schools for this tournament, with a total of 28 teams competing. There will be roughly 110-120 kids and 40-50 adults on campus that day. This will be the largest Quiz Bowl tournament yet on our campus, and almost certainly the largest in the state this year outside of the State Championship in March 2026.
- Tuesday 10/28, 6pm, VPAC
- Parent Presentation: “Digital Discernment – Creating a Tech-Ready Home in an AI Age”. National speaker Doug Crawford from Protect Young Eyes will help families navigate the digital world with balance, integrity, and awareness. Parents will gain practical tools, resources, and insight to support open, informed conversations with their children about technology and online safety. [Click here to view the event flyer.]
- Thursday 10/30, 8:15AM, Alumni House Dining Hall
- School Safety Parent Coffee - Join us to learn more about the many ways we prioritize safety here at school. This coffee will be hosted by Dr. Carrie Steakley, Head of School; Stephen Anderson, Director of Campus Security; Kelly LeDuff, Keep Open Eyes; and the Division Heads.
- Thursday 10/30, after school
- Join us for Volleyball’s Senior Night as we host the Woodlawn Panthers in the Main Gym, and stay on for Football as we host the Dunham Tigers at 7pm.
- Friday 10/31, all day
- Halloween is an annual highlight in the calendar, and students are invited to wear costumes to school. Our Dean of Student Life, Mr. Scott Engholm, will be sharing costume guidelines with your students in his weekly email bulletin.
- Tuesday 11/11, 9:20AM, Carpool Circle
- Veterans Day Car Parade - Participants can register here. We look forward to cheering on and thanking all our community veterans!
Finally, as we roll into cooler weather, please know that our Campus School Store is open as follows when students are on campus:
- Wednesday 7:30-8:30am
- Thursday 2:00-3:00pm
The store accepts cash, credit cards, and checks, and offers all sizes of white and navy crewneck sweatshirts and hoodies, navy sweatshirts, PE uniforms, everyday tee shirts, and other miscellaneous items.
