Upper School Parent Newsletter | 11-07-25

November 7th, 2025 by Dan Binder

Dear Upper School Families,

As usual, it has been busy on campus. Between volleyball playoffs, cross country meets, club meetings, field trips, our upcoming theatre showcase, and the constant buzz of teaching and learning, it’s perhaps been easy to feel overwhelmed; with so many balls in the air, it can feel like dropping one or more is inevitable. I encourage you to have conversations with your student, not just about grades or visible accomplishments, but about the feelings and emotions that may be just under the surface. If you are looking for a book to add to your reading list, I recommend Lisa Damour’s The Emotional Lives of Teenagers: Raising Connected, Capable, and Compassionate Adolescents. Many of you may be familiar with Dr. Lamour through our ISACS Parents Series or through her regular contributions to CBS News, and her book is chock-full of practical, research-backed techniques to help parents understand and support their teenage children.

You will find below some information regarding upcoming events, and I hope you will not hesitate to reach out to the Upper School office if you have any questions or concerns.

  • Tuesday 11/11, 9:20AM, Carpool Circle
    • Veterans Day Car Parade - Participants can register here. We look forward to cheering on and thanking all our community veterans!

  • Saturday 11/15, 6:30PM, VPAC
    • Fall Theatre Showcase - our wonderful actors and crew have been hard at work on a selection of songs, monologues, scenes, and other short performances. This showcase is sure to be a good time. Free entry!

  • Tuesday 11/18, 9:20AM, Lewis Chapel
    • Eucharist - as always, you are welcome to join us for chapel as we celebrate the Eucharist together.  Fr. Patrick will preside, and Mr Moroney will be speaking.

  • Saturday 12/13, 5PM, St James
    • The ordination of Casey Duncan to the priesthood. You are most welcome to attend.  Find the invitation here.

Please also keep in mind that the whole school is activated to support Shepherd’s Market’s goal of raising $10,000 to purchase holiday meals for 500 families.  In addition to our community-wide financial goal, the Upper School in particular has been called on to donate 500 canned vegetable items (carrots, green beans, etc.)  Father Patrick Edwards has sent an email earlier this week with more details.  If you are able to donate, you can do so at this PayPal link or scan the QR code below.
