Lower School Happenings
March 29th, 2022
Learning is fun and engaging in Lower School! Students are encouraged to explore the world around them through hands-on experiences and project-based lessons. Whether it’s reading, math, science or learning through play, our faculty does a great job of offering a range of projects to suit everyone. Check out a few of the recent experiences that have inspired learning, and you’ll see why we love Lower School!
Sometimes the Zoo Comes to You!
First graders had close encounters with an alligator, owl, tenrec and even hissing cockroaches. Thanks to the BREC Zoo Mobile Zoo, students enjoyed learning about these creatures without ever leaving the Episcopal campus.
Later, after a nature walk around campus to collect items for a Birds Nest STEM Challenge, students made bird nests in the QUEST Center. The nature walk also included a visit to Mrs. Vey’s chicken coop, where students found two eggs. To learn more about cold-blooded creatures, students used thermochromic powder to make reptiles out of playdough.
I See You!
Fourth graders learned more about the cornea, pupil and iris by dissecting a cow eye. This annual tradition always makes a lasting impression on students.
Exploring the Ocean Without Getting Wet
Thanks to augmented reality and an iPad, kindergarten students recently examined creatures of the deep. The little marine biologists loved learning more about jellyfish, squid, turtles, cuddle fish and more.
A Wiggly Lesson
You can learn a lot from a worm! For one thing, you can learn that you’re brave enough to touch it! Young Knights became scientists as they examined the squirmy creatures in the QUEST Center recently.
Happy Holi!
The Lower School celebrated Holi with a division-wide festival of colors. Students and teachers had a great time tossing colors and celebrating the beginning of spring.
Karnival Knight Returns!
The traditional Karnival Knight returned this year to the delight of Lower and Middle School students of all ages! The campus was filled with the laughter and excitement of Knights having a great time on a spring day. Enjoy photos from the event.
The Episcopal School of Baton Rouge 2025-2026 application is now available! For more information on the application process, to schedule a tour, or learn more about the private school, contact us at [email protected] or 225-755-2685.
