Charles Carter to Play Baseball for Xavier University of Louisiana

May 6th, 2025

“Hard work always beats out talent.” Charles Carter ’25

Episcopal baseball player Charles Carter’s hard work and dedication have paid off as he recently announced that he’ll continue his athletic career at Xavier University of Louisiana next year. “Xavier University of Louisiana is the right school for me because it provides the cultural environment as well as the challenging academic aspect,” says Charles. “Also, I will remain close to family and friends and be joining school with my sister, Mary Carter.”

Charles first began playing baseball at the age of three. “I love baseball because this game comes with a lot of adversity and teaches you how to deal with adversity and keep pushing forward with every setback that comes your way,” he says. “This opportunity means a lot to me because this is what I have worked for all my life and always dreamed of playing college baseball since I was little. It also provides me with the opportunity to obtain a college degree on scholarship.” At Xavier, Charles plans to major in chemical engineering in the dual degree program.

At the recent signing celebration, Head Coach Travis Bourgeois highlighted Charles’ numerous team contributions as a four-year player and three-year starter for the Knights. Bourgeois pointed out that Charles was always a consistent player, whether he played designated hitter, third base, second base or pitcher. Charles was also a home run and RBI leader for the Knights. Coach Bourgeois complimented Charles for his hard work in the weight room to prepare himself for the opportunity to play college baseball. “Physically, he is ready for the next level,” Bourgeois advised the crowd.

Now that Charles has accomplished his goal of playing baseball in college, he has this advice for classmates with a similar dream. “My advice to other athletes to compete at the next level is to always keep going, bet on yourself, and stay positive,” says Charles. “Hard work always beats out talent.”

No doubt, Charles will continue working hard on and off the field. Please join us in congratulating him in the comments section below.
