Recently, Episcopal School of Baton Rouge gathered to celebrate a milestone evening in the history of Episcopal Athletics: the induction of Bart L. Phillips ’91 and Vincent Dellocono ’12 into the Episcopal Athletic Hall of Fame. Alumni Relations Coordinator Lindsay Turner '97 shares more on how remarkable alumni athletes represent the tradition and history of Episcopal while also highlighting the impact being a student-athlete at Episcopal has had on their lives beyond graduation.

Bart Phillips ’91 joins his father, Ron Phillips, 2009 inductee, as part of this year's Hall of Fame, making them the first father-son duo to receive this distinguished honor. Bart’s induction not only highlights his personal accomplishments on the field but also highlights the tremendous career and service he provided to our country at the United States Naval Academy. Bart is also the brother of past student and Phillips gym namesake Annslee Laura Phillips. He returns to campus every year to award the Annslee Laura Phillips Female Athlete of the Year award to a deserving female student athlete.  Friday’s induction serves as a reminder of the deep, multi-generational connections that bind Episcopal families together. His legacy, both as an athlete and now as a Hall of Fame member alongside his father, is a testament to the enduring impact of Episcopal Athletics from generation to generation and to the special community we have here at Episcopal.

Vincent Dellocono ’12, our youngest inductee, brought a sense of vibrant energy and inspiration to the celebration. Still connecting with many of our current coaches, there were discussions about the wing-t offense, the feel of the grass when you take the field, and the future visions for the programs he loved being a part of.  As the Hall of Fame’s youngest honoree, Vincent represents the bright future of Episcopal Athletics while reminding us of the high standards of dedication, teamwork, and perseverance that define being a Knight. Being a high school student-athlete remains an ever-important part of Vincent’s Episcopal story. We know the sentiments he shared ring true for so many of our current students.  

The day of celebration was filled with moments that connected past, present, and future. Bart and Vincent began with a Friday morning “Coffee and Coaches” gathering, sharing their experiences with Episcopal’s current coaching staff. Later, they spoke at Middle School Chapel, offering stories and wisdom that resonated with our students and faculty alike. Their return to campus reminded everyone that the values of sportsmanship, leadership, and teamwork extend well beyond their years as student-athletes. They reminded us to value the moments we are given here at Episcopal as students are shaping the person they will be in life. 

The festivities culminated Friday evening as our Episcopal Knights took on Ascension Catholic in a Friday Knight Light football matchup.  The evening began with a pre-game reception in the Graves Family Fieldhouse where classmates, family and our Episcopal community had the opportunity to visit, reminisce and congratulate both inductees. Additionally, during the pre-game reception the new Athletic Hall of Fame display was revealed.  This display highlights all of our Athletic Hall of Fame inductees throughout the years.  Episcopal’s tradition runs deep, and it was important to us that both our current community and alumni have the opportunity to see and celebrate the individuals who laid the foundation for what we are today. We’re thrilled to have this display in a space that regularly brings people together—whether it’s alumni events, team meetings, shared meals, or campus tours for prospective students.  This display would not have been possible without the tremendous support of Episcopal’s Squires Organization. We would also like to thank Beverly Hise and her family for their commitment to wanting to see the history of Episcopal preserved and past Athletic Director Randy Richard for the vision to help this recognition take shape over the years. 

As the inductees were announced during the halftime ceremony, their contributions were celebrated not just with applause but with heartfelt gratitude. 

We were so thrilled to be joined by 10 past inductees to help welcome these newest inductees into this distinguished Athletic Hall of Fame.  Past inductees included: 

John White  – first-ever Knights of the Round Table inductee in 1976 and 1972 graduate  

Beverly Hise Russell – 1978 inductee and 1976 graduate

Andrew Wyly – 1985 Inductee and 1976 graduate

Van Hiles – 2006 inductee and 1993 graduate

Rubin Patel – 2007 inductee and 1990 graduate

Ron Phillips – 2009 Inductee and supporter

Robert Sindelar – 2012 inductee and 1986 graduate

Myra Mansur – 2022 Inductee and past coach and Athletic Director

Warrick Baker – 2024 Inductee and 1991 graduate

Flynn Foster – 1985 graduate representing his sister Felica Foster – 2024 Inductee and 1988 graduate

Episcopal is proud to honor Bart Phillips ’91 and Vincent Dellocono ’12 for their lasting influence on our school and athletics program. Their stories will continue to inspire, and their legacies will forever be part of the rich tapestry of Episcopal Athletics.

Lindsay Turner is a 1997 graduate of Episcopal High School. She received her undergraduate degree at The University of Alabama in Business and received her master’s degree in Sports Administration from Louisiana State University.  After spending 17 years on LSU’s campus both at the LSU Alumni Association as well as the Tiger Athletic Foundation in 2019 she accepted a position as the Development Outreach Coordinator here at Episcopal. Lindsay married another Episcopal alum, Earl Turner III, and they have two children, Wynn and Sydney. Lindsay is thrilled to be back on campus and looks forward to reenergizing and reconnecting with fellow Knights in our alumni community.
