Lower School Happenings - January 2023
January 23rd, 2023

Happy 100 days of school!
PreK-3
They may be little, but they’re big on learning! PreK-3 students love to read during D.E.A.R. time.

PreK-4
Where do animals go when the temperature drops? PreK-4 students are learning about life in some of the coldest environments on earth. To better understand how a layer of blubber keeps creatures cozy, the young Knights experimented with “blubber” gloves in the QUEST Center in Foster Hall.
PreK-4 celebrated 100 days of school by dressing up like 100 year olds!
Kindergarten
Kindergarten students are going under the sea to learn about the “Mysteries of the Deep.” Students are discussing the creatures who call the ocean home and even what it’s like to scuba dive into the watery depths.
First Grade
First graders are exploring simple machines as they work to solve challenges presented in fairytales as part of their Enchanted Engineering project.
Second Grade
Second graders are getting their passports stamped as part of their annual lesson on the continents. The young explorers have already traveled via EHS Airlines to North America, Antarctica and Asia. Along the way, students are learning about the food, customs, animals and environments of these faraway places.
Third Grade
Third graders are busy gearing up for an “Invention Convention” in February. Students discovered primitive technology at the Rural Life Museum and are now studying how these inventions evolved over time. Eventually, they will create a timeline of the technology and predict what it will be like in the future.
Fourth Grade
The fourth grade favorite Cardboard Arcade lesson has begun! Students are working hard to design and engineer their own arcade game that incorporates one or more electrical circuits and simple machines.
Fifth Grade
Fifth graders and their families recently celebrated writing. Students worked on narrative pieces during the second quarter and invited family members to read them and celebrate the hard work that went into these final drafts. Fifth grade teacher Nicole Engstrom shared that a lot of work is done behind the scenes to produce a written piece. “The writing process starts with getting inspired, writing ideas down, having a writing partner to help edit and improve the piece, writing drafts, and finally the best part, having an audience to share it all with.”
The Episcopal School of Baton Rouge 2025-2026 application is now available! For more information on the application process, to schedule a tour, or learn more about the private school, contact us at [email protected] or 225-755-2685.
