Lower School Students Make Their Mark on Dot Day
September 17th, 2025
Each year Monday, September 15th, is International Dot Day, inspired by the book The Dot, by Peter Reynolds. It's a day in which artists around the world celebrate the fact that all art begins with just a dot. This idea can also be related to other realms in that, when we are apprehensive about trying something new, remember that small beginnings can lead to big opportunities! So be courageous, make your mark and try new things!
To celebrate Dot Day, all grades in the Lower School created various dot masterpieces which are showcased in the Greer Center. On Monday, students celebrated Dot Day in Morning Meeting by recognizing the importance of being courageous, viewing the grade level art projects, and by singing the Dot Day song. They also participated in a collaborative exhibit, inspired by Japanese artist, Yayoi Kasuma - “The Princess of Polka Dots". Kasuma is notable for her dot motif paintings and held interactive exhibits in museums around the world. In these exhibits, she created an “Obliteration Room” which was a furnished room of only white. Museum patrons were invited to “obliterate” the white by adding colorful dots all over the exhibit. Students participated in their own exhibit, “Obliteration Letters” by adding colorful dot stickers to white letters spelling KNIGHTS which are now on display in the Quest Center.
Hopefully this message will inspire our young Knights to continue to be courageous and try new things, so they can make their mark on our world for years to come!
