Sixth Grade Care Packages Build Community and Bridge Generations
December 4th, 2025

At Episcopal, traditions build bridges across generations. One of the most uplifting examples of this is the sixth graders’ annual tradition of creating care packages for recent graduates.
This year, the Middle School students poured their creativity and kindness into handmade cards, festive Christmas ornaments and reindeer hot chocolate gifts. Each package was carefully assembled with the hope of bringing a smile to members of the Class of 2025 as they navigate their first semester of college.
“Our young alumni love receiving these exam care packages,” says Alumni Relations Coordinator Lindsay Turner ’97. “I think the first semester at college can be wonderful but it can also be challenging. I hope knowing that our current students are thinking of them during this stressful time reminds them that they will always have a place on this campus and in this community.”
Turner emphasizes that the younger students are also learning the importance of serving others. “They get to see firsthand how deeply Episcopal values our young alumni,” she says. “They discover that they can bring joy to a part of our community that, while no longer with us on campus, we still think about and miss seeing every day. It is a beautiful reminder that even small acts of kindness can make a meaningful difference.”
The care packages are more than just gifts; they’re reminders that Episcopal is a community for life. As alumni face new challenges and opportunities, these gestures of support from younger students reinforce the message: once a Knight, always a Knight!
“I think now more than ever Episcopal is really working to reconnect with our alumni,” says Turner. “While alumni programming will continuously evolve, it is exciting to know that there are traditions that so many of our alumni have experienced and have been impacted by.”

Why This Tradition Matters
- Connection across generations: Sixth graders learn the importance of serving others, while alumni feel the lasting support of their school community.
- Building community: The care packages embody the core values of character formation, leadership development and building community that define Episcopal.
- Strengthening alumni bonds: Small gestures like this deepen alumni ties and remind them that their journey with Episcopal continues long after graduation.
As the holiday season approaches, these care packages serve as a symbol of Episcopal’s mission to nurture not only academic excellence but also a sense of lifelong community.
