Celebrating Mums, Giving Thanks, Sharing Expertise and REUKNIGHTING
May 2nd, 2023
Episcopal prepared me. The school is a second home for me and my family. A place to pursue your interests. A school that nurtures faith.
Ask alumni what makes an Episcopal education special, and common themes of academic preparation, athletic determination, artistic talent and spiritual and service learning opportunities are frequently mentioned. Episcopal alumni are successful, empathetic and passionate, and we are thrilled that our graduates have been more engaged this school year. Here are a few recent examples of the alumni support that keeps the Episcopal community UKNIGHTED.
Mums of Alums
An impressive 77 mothers of Episcopal graduates gathered for the annual Mums of Alums social. The event was a great opportunity to catch up with old friends and make new friends, as moms of the Class of 2023 were invited to join the gathering.
Head of School Dr. Carrie Steakley welcomed everyone. “This event is near and dear to my heart as a mom,” she said. She reminded the moms that the work they did supporting their children and Episcopal lives on today in current students and the connected alumni community, and she thanked them for all they do.
Dr. Steakley also expressed gratitude to Jane Kirkpatrick for hosting the event and Parents’ Guild for supporting the occasion.
Check out photos from the event here.
Thank Back/Give Back
The Episcopal Alumni Association welcomed members of the Class of 2023 with the annual Thank Back/Give Back event. “The alumni community is very connected, and this is just the first step,” Alumni Relations Coordinator Lindsay Turner told students. While enjoying refreshments, the seniors wrote notes of thanks to the teachers and coaches who supported them during their time on campus. Those notes will now be delivered to faculty members.
Rubin Patel ’90 congratulated the class and encouraged them to be grateful for the lifelong opportunities created through an Episcopal education. “You should thank your parents for sending you to Episcopal,” he said. Dr. Patel pointed out that, like him, students will likely keep their Episcopal friends for life. Both Turner and Dr. Patel encouraged students to stay in touch with the Episcopal community beyond graduation.
Alumni Guest Speakers
Episcopal alumni showed up for current students this year as guest readers, mentors and speakers. Members of the Science Club learned about science-related careers from a range of alumni experts, who enthusiastically returned to campus to share their stories. Upper School French students also learned about living and studying abroad. Thank you to all of the outstanding alumni who spent time with our students.
Regional Alumni Gathering
Alumni enjoyed catching up with old Episcopal friends and even making a few new ones at the recent regional gathering held at Parish Line Bistro in Metairie. Guests speakers included Head of School Dr. Carrie Steakley and longtime cross country and track & field Coach Claney Duplechin.
Dr. Steakley reminded attendees that Episcopal continues to be their school, and that being a part of the alumni community is a special bond. She said it is a pleasure seeing our graduates involved with the school in whatever ways are possible. Coach Dupe spoke about how his students and the athletes that shaped him as a person and coach. He enjoyed seeing so many alumni and discovering how they have grown and continue to find success. Coach Dupe also gave an update on this year's athletic programs.
