Episcopal Student Enjoys a Day at the Museum - Copy
June 14th, 2021
"A girl can achieve anything." Laura Mapes
Episcopal fourth grader Laura Mapes was selected to participate in this year’s LSU Girls Day at the Museum. Each year, the event is hosted by the LSU Museum of Natural Science and the LSU College of Science to encourage girls to explore the field of science. This year’s event was virtual and offered a range of exciting activities for participants. Laura says the group spoke with scientists and took a peek inside their labs. Students also made origami animals, examined giraffe and elephant skulls and learned more about bats.
Laura, who says science is her favorite subject found it hard to narrow down the best part. “Everything was my favorite part,” she says enthusiastically. As far as inspiring next year’s group of participants, Laura has this advice for classmates considering the experience. “Always stay curious and you’re smarter than you think. If you believe you can, you’re almost there.”
