“I get to challenge myself in the classroom while continuing to compete in a sport I’ve loved for over a decade.” Jackson Young ’26

Episcopal offensive and defensive standout Jackson Young will have the best of both worlds after announcing he’ll continue playing football at Millsaps College next year. “As a pre-med student, their biology program will help me build a strong academic foundation and prepare for medical school,” says Jackson. “It also gives me the opportunity to continue playing football while staying focused on my academic goals. Overall, Millsaps provides the right combination of academic strength, athletic opportunity and personal support that I was looking for.”

Football has been part of Jackson’s life for 13 years. He began playing in a competitive youth league at the age of five and continues to love the sport today. “There’s nothing else quite like it for me,” he says. “From the moment I first put on a helmet and shoulder pads, it just felt right, and I knew it was something I wanted to keep pursuing. I love the physical side of the game, but also the discipline it requires and the mental aspect of learning and anticipating plays.”

At Episcopal, Jackson rushed for 400 yards and had 300 receiving yards. Head Coach Travis Bourgeois says he was a welcome addition to the team. “He is a tremendous role model for our younger players with his work ethic and leadership,” says Bourgeois.

That work ethic will serve Jackson well at the next level, and he encourages classmates with a similar goal to put in the work that’s required and then some. “Never be fully satisfied with where you are in your progress,” Jackson says. “It’s important to acknowledge your accomplishments but always keep pushing yourself to get at least 1% better every day.” He also encourages teammates to take advantage of the opportunity to work with coaches. “Being coachable is one of the most important traits you can have, because those corrections are meant to help you reach your full potential,” he says. “Most importantly, give your full effort in everything you do. Whether you’re in the weight room, on the field or court, or in the classroom, every bit of effort counts and adds up over time.”

Jackson has given his all as a member of the Episcopal community. In addition to football, he is also a member of the Knights baseball team. He is a member of the National Honor Society and Knights for Christ. He also participates in Grill Club and Fishing Club.

Jackson is sure to make an impact at Millsaps next year. Join us in congratulating him. Share a message with him in the comments section below.
