Upper School Goals
Upper School at Episcopal is designed to prepare students for college, leadership, and purposeful lives. Through challenging academics, meaningful relationships, and opportunities for exploration, students grow into confident, independent learners ready to engage with the world around them.
Episcopal’s Upper School priorities include strengthening academic programming, supporting faculty growth, refining student support systems, and creating learning experiences that prepare students for a rapidly changing world. The strategies below provide an example of how each strategic plan goal will be achieved in Upper School. Division Head Dan Binder outlines the path ahead for the Upper School community.
Upper School will support reading, writing and research skills through the library and Academic Resource Center, focus on faculty engagement and professional growth plans, and continue to provide programming around real-world topics through Community Time. The team will work collaboratively to strengthen financial planning and school resource management.
Strategic Goal One: Excellence in Teaching & Learning
Upper School priorities include increased classroom observations, deeper faculty engagement with professional growth plans, and the use of a self-reflection tool aligned with teaching standards. Faculty onboarding is under review to improve clarity and communication. Attendance and tardy policies continue to be refined, with a focus on managing excessive or chronic cases and strategies for making up lost instructional time. Teachers are encouraged to pursue professional development and share resources with colleagues. Collaboration remains a focus, especially within the performing arts and between the arts and extracurricular programs. The Library and Academic Resource Center are supported for their integral role in strengthening reading, writing, and research skills across all grade levels. Community Time continues to provide programming around real-world topics relevant to students’ lives. Together, these efforts reinforce a rigorous, student-centered Upper School experience grounded in academic excellence, real-world readiness, and personal growth.
Strategic Goal Two: Episcopal Identity & Community
Upper School programming includes the expansion of service learning through courses and co-curricular opportunities. The division emphasizes communication transparency via weekly updates and principal blogs, and continues to foster student leadership through vestry and chapel roles. A blog series from the Upper School desk shares glimpses into daily life, underscoring shared values.
Strategic Goal Three: Financial Sustainability
School-wide collaboration is strengthening financial planning across divisions. Teams are working together to align departmental initiatives with budget priorities, seek new revenue opportunities, and build long-term sustainability through data-informed strategies.
At Episcopal, Upper School is more than preparation for college. It is a time for students to deepen their interests, strengthen their character, and develop the confidence to lead purposeful lives.
