JUAN CARLOS ACEVEDO, PHD. UPPER SCHOOL SPANISH TEACHER.
DOCTORATE: ILLINOIS STATE UNIVERSITY. With a passion for service and a wealth of experience, Dr. Juan Carlos Acevedo teaches Upper School Spanish. Dr. Acevedo previously taught at Louisiana State University, Illinois State University, Southern University, Heartland Community College and Illinois Wesleyan University. In addition, he taught English at the Centro Colombo Americano in Bogota. Dr. Acevedo earned a doctorate in English Studies (Linguistics & Technologies) and a master’s degree in Languages, Literatures and Culture (Spanish Linguistics) from Illinois State University. In addition, he earned a bachelor’s degree in Teaching Spanish, English and French from the Universidad de la Salle. Dr. Acevedo’s experience includes teaching novice through intermediate Spanish, Spanish for heritage speakers, introductory linguistics, language and culture and academic writing. He has designed courses, served on departmental committees and developed curricular resources. Dr. Acevedo is married to Episcopal Spanish teacher Rocio Cano. |
