Upper School Parent Newsletter | 12-19-25

December 19th, 2025 by Dan Binder

Dear Upper School Families,

As the campus quiets down and we close the books on the fall semester, I want to pause and express my deep gratitude. My first semester at Episcopal has been a time of immense joy and discovery. Thank you for the warm welcome you have extended to me; your partnership is essential to the work we do, and I am honored to be part of this community.

Before we depart for the break, I want to touch on a few important logistical items:

Health and Exam Make-ups As many of you know, this flu season has been particularly aggressive. We have missed seeing many of our students on campus this week. Please remember that at Episcopal, we value the whole child—physically as well as intellectually. A student’s health must come first.

For those students who were unable to sit for their exams due to illness, there is no need to worry. We have a plan in place, and I want to assure you and your students that there will be no academic penalties for being ill. Any necessary exams not completed this week will be scheduled for January upon our return. We want our students to rest, recover, and enjoy the break so they can return ready to perform at their best. We will communicate directly with those students and families regarding the make-up schedule in the New Year.

Staffing Update I am delighted to share with you some wonderful news regarding a familiar face. Ms Danna Sabolik, who has so ably managed our Upper School office, will be moving into a new role as the school’s Registrar. While we will miss her presence at the front desk, we are thrilled to keep her talent and institutional knowledge within the Episcopal family.

As we conduct a thorough search for the next person to fill that vital role at our front desk, we will have substitute coverage throughout much of January. We appreciate your patience and grace as we navigate this transition.

I leave you with a prayer from our the Book of Common Prayer:

O Eternal God, bless all schools, colleges, and universities, and especially the Episcopal School of Baton Rouge, that they may be lively centers for sound learning, new discovery, and the pursuit of wisdom; and grant that those who teach and those who learn may find you to be the source of all truth; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.  (BCP, p. 824)

May you and your family have a blessed Christmas and a happy New Year.
