Episcopal School of Baton Rouge Names Head Boys Basketball Coach
April 24th, 2023
Episcopal School of Baton Rouge has named veteran coach Ben Young the new Head Boys Basketball Coach for the Knights. Young joins the Knights after two successful seasons as the Head Coach of the Salmen High School Spartans in Slidell. The Spartans were co-district champions and made it to the second round of the state playoffs.
Young is no stranger to the Episcopal Knights, having previously served as the Assistant Varsity/Head JV Boys Basketball Coach. Under his leadership, the junior varsity squad had a record of 12 and 2. Prior to that, he was the Head Coach for Runnels High School for 10 years, winning 145 games over the final seven seasons. Young led the Raiders to a 2019/2020 state championship game, where they finished as the state runner-up. The Raiders were a 2018/2019 state semifinalist, reached the state quarterfinals five out of the last six seasons and the state playoffs seven consecutive seasons from 2014 to 2020. In addition to coaching basketball, Young also coached the Runnels High School baseball team.
Young earned a Bachelor of Science in Mathematics: Secondary Education from Bryan College in Dayton, Tennessee. He was a four-year member of the Bryan College baseball team, pitching 79 games. In addition to coaching basketball at Episcopal, he will also teach Upper School math.
“We look forward to having Ben as a member of the Episcopal community,” says Episcopal Athletic Director Randy Richard. “It’s an exciting time to be a Knight.”
