Middle School Mo Ranch Adventures Challenge Students and Boost Community
October 30th, 2025

The annual Mo Ranch eighth grade trip is a beloved tradition for Episcopal Middle School students, who make the nine-hour trek to the Texas Hill Country with members of the Episcopal faculty. With limited access to technology, students participate in a range of team-building experiences that inspire them to try new things and get out of their comfort zone, all while fostering a sense of independence and resilience. The adventure is the ultimate community-building experience, and students proudly accomplish feats they never imagined possible.
“The best part of Mo Ranch was getting a break from school that involved some independence but also getting to hang out with friends,” says Milo Gutfreund. “I learned that you are capable of doing hard or new things and that pushing yourself made your experience even better.” Milo says he’s most proud of conquering the Mo Pole, which is a challenging yet rewarding experience to complete.
Classmate Marcella Rabalais says the best part of her Mo Ranch experience was participating in activities with friends and bonding with people she didn’t previously know. “From this Mo Ranch experience, I learned that your classmates will always be there to support you,” she says. “The Mo Ranch experience that I am most proud of accomplishing is jumping off the Mo Pole. Initially, I was not going to do it because I thought I would make a fool of myself in front of my group, but after being with them for a few days, I wasn’t afraid anymore. I reached the top of the pole, stood up, and when I jumped, I was extremely proud of myself.”

Conquering the Mo Pole
The Mo Ranch Mo Pole is quite a feat for retreat visitors of all ages. According to Mo Ranch, the pole is one of the high elements in the ropes and rock climbing course. The course is situated on one of the highest points of the ranch, challenging participants to push themselves beyond their expectations. Such a challenge is sure to be rewarding for anyone who conquers it.
