Katie Sue Capron '23 Signs with Birmingham-Southern
May 1st, 2023
“Soccer has taught me many life lessons including time management, working hard, working with others, and leadership skills.” Katie Sue Capron, Class of 2023
Katie Sue Capron hasn’t stopped playing soccer since she first started kicking as a kindergartener. She’ll continue competing next year as a member of the Birmingham-Southern Panthers. “Soccer has always been my getaway whenever things get stressful and I just need to relax,” says Katie Sue. She appreciates the life lessons the sport has given her and looks forward to the journey ahead.
A Successful Senior Season
Katie Sue was a key member of the Knights’ soccer team that earned a state runner-up title this season and ended up District Champions. She was named on the All District, All Metro and All State team this season to end her senior soccer career. “Katie Sue excelled this season and has been a fantastic asset to the Episcopal Soccer Program for the past 4 years,” says Head Coach Lynn Bradley. “Her leadership on and off the field as a Captain has been fantastic and she deserved every accolade she received this year. Her presence will be missed in the Soccer Program but we are thrilled to see Katie Sue being able to continue her Soccer career at the collegiate level.”
A College with a Familiar Feel
Birmingham-Southern’s academics were a contributing factor to Katie Sue’s decision, and the school has a familiar feeling that she appreciates. “Birmingham-Southern has allowed me to continue to be at a school that reminds me of Episcopal,” she says. “I have a small class and I am able to form relationships with teachers, classmates, and teammates.” Katie Sue has always been interested in the medical field and plans to major in nursing or pre-med.
Work Hard to Achieve Your Goals
“I’ve always dreamed of playing college soccer, taking too the path of pre-med, and being able to be in a beautiful city not too far from home and Birmingham Southern allows me to do all of these things,” Katie Sue says. She advises classmates with a similar goal to work hard. “Athletics is something that requires work and if it’s a dream of yours to play then never give it up,” she says. “The opportunities to play are endless, and there is a place for everyone to compete.”
Katie Sue has certainly found her place. Join us in wishing her well as she continues her athletic and educational journey.
