Alden Romano to Play Soccer and Baseball at Millsaps College
April 12th, 2024

“I’m very excited for the opportunity to play two sports at the college level and am very thankful for everyone who has helped get me to this point.” Alden Romano ’24
Episcopal’s Alden Romano made it official when he signed to play both baseball and soccer for Millsaps College next year. While being a dual-sport athlete in college may seem challenging, Alden is ready for the opportunity. “I know that managing schoolwork and playing two sports in college will be tough, but it is something that I have dealt with for most of my life, so I feel that I’m well prepared.”

A Lifetime of Preparation Leads to Success on the Field
Alden has been preparing for this moment since he first started playing soccer at three and baseball at five. At Episcopal, he was a three-sport athlete, competing with the Knights football team as the kicker and punter, and the soccer and baseball teams. “It’s a dying breed to handle three sports year round,” Head Football and Baseball Coach Travis Bourgeois said during the signing ceremony. He added the experience will certainly help Alden succeed at the next level.
Head Soccer Coach Kiran Booluck agrees and says it has been a joy to watch Alden grow over the last four years. “He is a leader on and off the field,” he told the gathered crowd. “He’s one of the best to come out of our program.”
Alden leaves an impressive mark on the Knights athletics program. He kicked 127 extra points in three years and earned All-District Punter and All-District Kicker accolades in football. He earned All-District in baseball and is a two-year starter. He is a member of two state championship soccer teams, the Division IV All-State Soccer Team and was recently named the 2024 LSCA Division IV All-State Defensive Player of the Year.

Consistent, Calming and Ready to Make His Mark at College
Alden looks forward to continuing that success at the next level. “I knew Millsaps was the right choice for me as soon as I visited,” he says. “I loved the campus and the environment. The coaching staff of both sports were super friendly and seemed very optimistic about me going there.” While he’s undecided about what he’ll study at Millsaps, Alden says he could major in sports psychology or sports medicine.
Surrounded by soccer and baseball teammates on signing day, Alden thanked everyone for their support. He offers this advice for classmates considering college athletics. “The best piece of advice that I can give to students who want to play at the next level is to stay consistent,” he says. “It may seem hard to do something every day, but the little things that you do every day will add up to a lot in the long run.”
Alden has had tremendous success since joining the Episcopal family in sixth grade after attending St. James. Athletic Director Randy Richard expressed pride for how far Alden has come. “He’s been a rock,” he said. “He’s always there. He’s a calming, positive presence.”
We can’t wait to see Alden’s impact as a dual-sport Millsaps athlete. Join us in congratulating him on this tremendous accomplishment.
