Episcopal's Addisyn Botos Will Continue Track & Field at Southern Miss
May 7th, 2024

“When I was given the opportunity to compete on the track team for Southern Miss I knew that wasn’t an opportunity I could pass up.” Addisyn Botos ’24
Addisyn Botos says it means the world to her that she will continue competing in track & field at the college level. Addisyn, who has been competing since middle school, throws the shot put, discus and javelin. She’ll continue doing that next year at the University of Southern Mississippi. “Southern Miss is the right school for me because I was offered so many great opportunities there,” says Addisyn. “They have an amazing biology program which showed me the opportunities I could have not only athletically but also academically.”

Reach for Opportunities
As Addisyn reflects on this opportunity, she offers the following advice to Episcopal classmates. “My advice for anyone who wants to compete at the next level is to just reach out to college coaches,” she says. “If there is a school you really want to go to and compete at the next level at I would say to just reach out to those coaches and you never know what opportunities they will give you.”
Work Hard
Addisyn has certainly impressed her Episcopal coaches during her time with the Knights. Recently, she was a finalist for Episcopal’s Annslee Laura Phillips Female Athlete of the Year Award. “She’s always the first and the last at practice,” Athletic Director Randy Richard said at the signing day event. He complimented Addisyn for putting so much effort into being the best student athlete possible. Girls track & field coach Bill Jones also had high praise for Addisyn. “She’s been tremendous,” he said. “They’re getting a great person.” Throwing coach Charlie O’Brien ’13 was equally supportive, saying he's spent every day for the last four years working with Addisyn. “I’m so proud of you,” he said before she signed.
Addisyn has taken full advantage of her high school experience, competing in and teaching swimming in addition to track & field. She is also a member of the National Honor Society. At Southern Miss, she plans to study biology on a pre-dental track.

Realize Your Dream
After all of the long hours and hard work, Addisyn looks forward to joining the Golden Eagles next year. It’s a dream come true, and she is sure to accomplish great things. Please join us in congratulating Addisyn as she takes this next step in her athletic journey.
